The Springfield Regional Arts Council (SRAC) and the Springfield-Branson National Airport are proud to present “Perspective: Three Artists” on display at the Sky Gallery now through Sunday, March 16, 2014. The exhibit features the work of local SRAC Artist Members Elizabeth Chapman, Penny Gordon-Chumbley, and Alan O’Neal.
Holiday fliers have a new way to find their way around the Springfield airport terminal: Google Maps. The website recently made a detailed floor plan available when computer users zoom in on the building. It’s a useful tool for anyone, but it’s especially good for infrequent fliers. And during the holiday travel period airports are full of infrequent fliers.
The annual total economic output of the Springfield airport is $402,017,000. Put another way, the airport’s economic clout accounts for 2.48% of the Springfield metro’s total economic output. *
“I knew the airport had a big impact on the area, but the numbers surprised me — I suspect it will surprise a lot of people,” says Brian Weiler, Springfield’s airport director. “We’re sort of hidden in the northwest part of the city, out of sight and out of mind.”
Allegiant begins new seasonal air service between Springfield and Ft. Myers/Punta Gorda,
Florida this Thursday evening.
The new flights will operate twice weekly on Thursday and Sunday evenings. The flight times make for a great weekend getaway.
The Springfield-Branson National Airport’s Sky Gallery is honored to be one of five galleries to host the 146th Annual International Exhibition of the American Watercolor Society (AWS). The exhibit opens on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 and will remain on display through Sunday, November 3, 2013. The exhibit is free and open to the public 24 hours a day.
This winter, when it's snowy and gloomy outside, you'll have three great Florida destinations to fly to on Allegiant Air: Tampa, Orlando, and beginning October 31, Punta Gorda (which is about a snowball's throw north of Ft. Myers).
Allegiant Airlines will host a charity dodgeball tournament in Springfield to benefit United Way of the Ozarks.
The “Dodge High Fares” dodgeball tournament is Saturday, August 17 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Fieldhouse Sportscenter, 2235 W. Kingsley, Springfield. The public is encouraged to form a team, sign up, and benefit this worthy cause.
Passenger numbers were up at the Springfield airport in 2012 — the upward movement bucks national and regional trends.
“Our total passenger numbers were up 2.8% in 2012,” says Brian Weiler, airport director of aviation. “In this tight airline economy that’s impressive. It shows there’s strong passenger demand in Springfield.”
Gourmet coffee is coming to the Springfield airport. Locally based Heroes Coffee Company will open an airport store in early February.
Allegiant recently flew its 500,000th customer from the Springfield-Branson National Airport. The half-a-million milestone was reached in May; almost exactly seven years after the low fare airline began flying from Springfield.
