Airport Police

The airport community is protected by the airport police department. As a state certified, stand-alone law enforcement organization, the department faces challenges that are unique to the airport environment. During a typical morning, an officer might help a customer find an airline gate; the next moment they're assessing a suspicious person as a terrorism threat. While the threat of terrorism may sound overblown, these officers really are on the frontline of defending the country against terrorist attack.

Airport police officers must complete the following specialized training:

  • Terrorism prevention
  • Threat risk assessment
  • Yearly terrorism training scenarios
  • Immigration law
  • Knowledge and enforcement of local and state laws, plus federal transportation/security laws
  • Federal drug interdiction
